totally agree about the inattentive boardering on rude service. the appetizers were reheated but were still cold & dried out. also had a problem using a restaurant.com coupon; make sure you mention it when you arrive (new restaurant.com listing for this dump now states this). after an argument they relented & applied the discount; but told us that when you tell them you are using it, they will not include the chutneys or rice for your entrees (sounds like padding the bill to me).

My family has been going to Chirag for a few years. We like this place a lot at first, and the wait staff was nice. However the services have gone downhill this past recent year. The new waiter was extremely rude! He was the tall one with glasses. Besides being unfriendly and inattentive, he took our order wrong, packed leftover food from 2 people into the same container, and rudely grabbed our coupon (from restaurant.com) and threw it on the counter when we were ready to pay.
If we want Indian food next time, we will go to Taste of India II on New Dorp Lane. Their food is better and they don't give us this horrible service. Or to Indian Clove on the corner of Victory Blvd and Clove Road for a lunch buffet.

Used to be my favorite Indian restaurant on SI. Very disappointed with the food the last two times - once dining in and once taking out. Food was bland, greasy and inauthentic. Appetizers (samosas and pakora) were undercooked. With take out (my husband brought it home on my birthday) the tops on the plastic containers were broke and made a huge mess in the bag. Won't be going back.

I recently went back to this restaurant and totally became extremely disappointed. I remember the dishes to be an authentic Indian cuisine.This time the food was bland. The Vindaloo sauce tasted like tomato sauce straight from a jar and watered down. No taste. I was very disappointed and won't be coming back anytime soon.

My friend and I went into Chirag for the $9.95 lunch buffet on a Saturday. The food was absolutely delicious. We had Chicken Korma, Samosa, Lentil, Chicken, Vegtable Dishes and Dessert and Chai Tea. Everything was amazing and they gave us a side dish of spices to make the food more spicy if we wished. Small cozy place with great food. The owner and his son were very friendly as well. We will be back.

It's obvious that the owner, or friends of the owner are posting rave reviews. Chirag has gone downhill. The owner should take and accept the criticism and fix the problem. Stop worrying about posting rave reviews. Their food was excellent, but not anymore. There is a problem and it's not too late to fix it. Stop skimping on quality, go back to the quality of when you opened the business and people will write excellent reviews again. People aren't posting bad reviews because they want to, they are posting them to help you as a business owner. Listen to the people who are writing and try to make things better. You had a excellent product and a unique product. Capitalize on it and your restaurant will be great. Keep up the trend you're on the last year or so and your restaurant will fail. It's not too late. Fix the problem. The food is no longer good, now it's up to you Restaurant owner to MAKE it good again. I can't wait to write a rave review for you when I see or hear that your restaurant has changed back to the way it was.

We love Chirag! Im so surprised at the negative reviews! Weve been ordering from here for over a year and have never had a complaint. I dont find the food inconsistent (but we always order iit spiced mild). Weve never eaten in the restaurant, but plenty of times we have picked up food from there, and the owner is always overly pleasant.

Tasty, with friendly service, and not as pricey as the New Dorp Lane alternative. Suggestions: try a Samosa! And a Mango Lassi! And don't be afraid to let them recommend something too. Another plus: delicious bottled beer that they'll even give you in a to-go order.

My son and I have enjoyed Indian food for many many years. However, after our experience at Chirag I'm having second thoughts. I have gone to many Indian restaurants but never experienced the filth there was in this one. The carpet was black with dirt. The tables literally had food stuck to it from the previous patron. I asked for the owner and this guy appears from a back room with sauce all over his shirt. I couldn't understand a word he was saying he just babble on and on it appeared he was trying to apologize. My son and I got up and left. I would not let this experience stop me from visiting Indian restaurants however, I would not go there again..Dissatisfied customer..

Inconsistent. That is the best way to describe this restaurant. You can order the same dish every time you go and it will be amazing one day and horrible the next time. I ordered take-out on Friday and I believe that's the last time I will order from Chirag again. It was just horrible. Even the rice had no taste. They started out great (When they first opened), but I noticed a big decline over the last year or so. I hope they improve again, till then they lost a customer. Very nice people in there too, the food is just not always good.

My wife and I visited this restaurant about three weeks ago and the experience was horrifying. The music was awful, I thought I was at a funeral home. The meal they served was so spicy that we needed glasses of water. My mouth felt like it was on fire..The food had such a foul odor. I should have complained about it but I thought maybe it was the spices so we gave it a try..What a mistake, for the next two days we couldn't stop going to the bathroom....If I wanted a laxative I would have gone to my local pharmacy not a restaurant... I would never again go there.

CHIRAG RESTAURANT IS JOKES IN STATEN ISLAND. FIRST TIME I BOUGHT SOME FOOD IN CHIRAG RESTAURANT BUT I GOT SMELL FOOD. THE TASTE WAS DIFFERENT AND MAY BE FOOD COOK LONG TIME AGO. I NEVER BACK TO AGAIN THIS RESTAURANT. I CAN TAKE THE ACTION WIHT RESTAURANT OWENER. THE FOOD WAS TOTALY POSITION. PLS MAKE SURE AND SELL THE FOOD. BE CAREFUL.

My wife and I both really disliked Chirag. I don`t usually like to give a bad review after only one visit, but I felt nauseous for a whole day after eating here. It`s too bad because this place is within walking distance of our house. We really want to like it, but it will be hard to give this place another try.
