The long lasting established “Corner House” on Lincoln avenue keeps moderate “American and Irish” atmosphere feel and moderate food to this Restaurant and Bar in Grant City. We have went out for a friend’s graduation, looking somewhere simple and quite serving home made meals and decided to try The Corner House. The overall feel of the restaurant is that it is a neighborhood bar and dining room (Grill). Many locals would chose this place for a place to hang out and enjoy a couple of drinks with there buddies while watching the game. It also a place for a quite dinner on a weekday and friend get-together on a weekend.

STATEN ISLAND, NY -- A busy Grant City intersection finds Corner House sitting quietly without fanfare. Harking back to the 30’s, and a real part of neighborhood life, it sees no reason to shout. Little has changed in what welcomes a customer beginning with a bar room displaying an aged bar with a Fox and Hounds mural serving as a border high on the wall. Guinness on tap helps to set the scene. The rustic look and feel continues in the dining room with the knotty wood paneling and memorabilia including police year book photos from 1937 and a World War II honor roll of Grant City boys. Service in the restaurant is casual. Several booths are located around the perimeter with tables centering the room. The menu is considered American and Irish with an emphasis on seafood. Their cole slaw is noteworthy. Small plates of it are served before anything else. It is delightfully fresh and not overwhelmed by mayo. We sampled several interesting appetizers and soups. Mozzarella Sticks were a standout with the warm breaded sticks served with a tasty homemade marinara sauce. Fried Mushrooms offered a generous portion of small breaded and fried button mushrooms with a zesty homemade horseradish dipping sauce. Jalapeno Poppers, mildly spicy and cream cheese stuffed, were enjoyable but could be improved with a better salsa. Manhattan Clam Chowder, chunky and assertively seasoned, was delectable with the clams adding a very tasty presence. Wedding Soup is the popular Italian-American marriage of meat and green vegetables, hence, minestra maritata or “married soup”. It was quite satisfying with its small meatballs, spinach, pasta and rich broth.
